Do It Yourself: Learn To Make Homemade Soap

If you are a supporter of natural beauty solutions, homemade soap is just for you! All you need to do is follow a few simple steps and make a cosmetic yourself that will perfectly take care of the health and beauty of your skin.
Natural soap - 3 simple and quick recipes

Recently, more and more people are choosing natural soap. Traditional, commercial body washes are formulated with chemical ingredients that can adversely affect the health of our skin and lead to its dryness.

Natural soap made of herbal extracts, essential oils and vegetable fat have a beneficial effect on the cells of the epidermis. They make the skin well moisturized, beautiful and free from irritation and allergic reactions.

Remember that, depending on the ingredients used, self-made soap will bring different benefits to your skin. Some energize and give the skin a boost of energy, while others have a relaxing effect and are a great addition to an evening bath after a hard day.

Natural soap – what is its advantage over traditional soap?

The main difference between home-made soap and that from the supermarket is the production process. Commercial soaps – like all other skin care cosmetics – contain a lot of artificial substances that can be dangerous to our body in the long run.

When you choose the ingredients yourself and make a natural soap, you can be sure that it is safe for your health and skin. Homemade recipe body washes have a huge advantage over cosmetics from supermarkets and drugstores.

  • Natural soap contains glycerin , a cosmetic substance with strong moisturizing properties for the epidermis and hair. In addition, it soothes irritations, accelerates the regeneration rate of skin cells, smoothes wrinkles and eliminates calluses.
  • Homemade soaps do not contain chemicals. Commercial cleansers contain a lot of chemicals, because they make the soap foam profusely and smell nice. It should not be forgotten that it is the artificial ingredients that cause allergies and skin irritation.
  • We can adapt natural soaps to the needs of our skin at will. Depending on the problem we are struggling with or the effect we want to achieve, we can choose from a huge range of ingredients with strong healing and beautifying properties.
  • In the case of making soap yourself, we are sure that the ingredients used are of high quality. Another important aspect is the awareness that we do not pollute the natural environment with chemicals or take part in the activities of factories that are destructive to the environment.

Natural soap – the right recipe for every problem

1. Soap for acne-prone skin

Nature gives us a huge choice when it comes to products that effectively fight acne and care for oily skin. Here is a list of the greatest allies of people who struggle with pimples, blackheads and other blemishes:

  • Thyme
  • Turmeric

  • Dried thyme
  • olive oil
  • Caustic soda ( sodium hydroxide )
  • Coconut oil
  • Demineralized water

In addition to the above, you will also need:
  • Thermometer
  • Rectangular soap mold
  • Soap cutter
  • Rubber gloves, glasses and a protective mask
A method of preparing
  • Prepare a suitable (durable) vessel and mix demineralized water and caustic soda. Since a reaction takes place when the two products are combined, the temperature increases significantly, special care should be taken to avoid skin burns.
  • For this purpose, it is recommended to wear a long-sleeved apron and use protective glasses and a mask.
  • Then heat the following oils in a small pot: olive oil, coconut oil, almond oil and thyme essential oil. Bring the mixture to about 40 ˚C.
  • Then combine the water and caustic soda solution with the oil blend. Pour the oils into a blender first, then add a solution of water and baking soda to them. Blend for a few minutes.
  • The next step is to add the coloring agent. Which product you choose depends on you and your cosmetic preferences.
  • Finally, pour the mass into a soap mold and decorate with dried thyme. Cover and set aside for about two days. After this time, the soap will solidify and acquire the appropriate texture.
  • Take a piece of soap out of the mold, cut it into smaller pieces and store it for about forty days to “mature”.

The third recipe for natural soap is based on the healing and beautifying properties of green tea. Remember that green tea is a real bomb of antioxidants that perfectly care for the health of the skin and prevent premature aging of the body’s cells.

green tea
Green tea soap ingredients
  • 450 g coconut oil (3 1/2 cups)
  • 80 g of olive oil (8 tablespoons)
  • 300 g shea butter (2 1/2 cups)
  • 125 g of caustic soda (½ glass)
  • 320 ml of demineralized water (1 and ½ glass)

A method of preparing
  • The first step is identical to the two recipes above. Prepare a suitable (durable) vessel and mix water and caustic soda together. Since a reaction takes place when the two products are combined, the temperature increases significantly, special care should be taken to avoid skin burns. For this, it is recommended to wear a long-sleeved apron and use protective glasses and a mask.
  • While the water and caustic soda solution is cooling down, melt the shea butter and coconut oil in a pot. When the two substances melt and combine, take the mixture off the heat.
  • Measure out 30 ml of tea (or camellia) oil or 30 g of powdered plant. Set aside, add them to the potion at the end.
  • Pour the oil mixture into a large vessel and add the caustic water solution. Combine the two liquids using a mixer or blender.
  • When the blend has a purée texture, add pre-measured tea or camellia oil to it, keep blending. Finally, add a little green tea essential oil.
  • Pour the mass into a mold, decorate with green tea leaves and leave to dry for about 24 hours. After this time, remove the soap from the mold, cut it into pieces and set aside to “rest” for four weeks.

Final remarks:

The place where you will make your natural soap should have good ventilation. Remember that when water is combined with caustic soda, there are strong chemical reactions that release acids that can affect our health. The faster you ventilate the room, the better.

In addition to the above, the entire natural soap production procedure is very simple and does not take much time. Homemade soap is not only the healthiest solution for your skin, but also a fantastic gift idea for friends and acquaintances.
