Loneliness in a Crowd - What Can You Do?

Loneliness is what most people fear most in the world. People are social creatures and the process of socialization and interactions with other people is for them the best chance for development and a sense of security.

When we feel lonely, sadness, frustration and sometimes even depression arise. Instead of closing yourself in your negative emotions, it is worthwhile to calmly consider what loneliness and a sense of alienation come from.

Loneliness and a sense of alienation

Sometimes, due to our own decision or factors beyond our will, we have to change the environment or isolate ourselves from the old surroundings. For example, an example of unexpected circumstances is an accident that temporarily breaks us out of our normal routine and everyday social interactions.

Another example is depression or anxiety, which can also limit our contact with the environment.

Paradoxically, in both of these cases, the greatest sense of rejection, loneliness and alienation appears after the apparent return to normal life. When, after the recovery period, we throw ourselves back into the sea of people, it may seem to us that we no longer stop and no one understands us.

On the surface, everything may seem like it used to be – we go to work, meet friends, deal with everyday matters … In our heart, however, we feel lonely and we cannot enjoy life anymore.

So the key question is this: what should be done in such a situation? What steps can you take to really come back to life? Is it possible to rebuild relationships that have never really been damaged? If you do not know what the problem is, and yet you dream about solving it, be sure to read on.

Recover your social competences

Consequently, after a relatively short time outside the community, any contact with other people can fill us with insecurity and shame.

Many people feel lonely in crowds because they have never gained confidence in their relationships with other people. Remember that lack of self-confidence and low self-esteem are powerful walls that we build between us and other people. Then it is practically impossible to establish any closer contact.

Remember that there is a way out of every situation. If you feel alienated, the solution is simply to work on recovering or re-learning certain interpersonal skills.

Sometimes it’s worth breaking down and getting out of your comfort zone, to finally regain your confidence and face your fears, and then say goodbye to them once and for all.

So the key to success is to activate them again. It requires commitment and courage, but believe me, it’s definitely worth it.

When loneliness comes from the environment

We have already discussed the situation where loneliness is a matter more about you than it is about your surroundings. So now let’s see if the opposite is possible. Yes of course! It is worth analyzing your environment from different angles and aspects, because this is where the source of the problem may lie.

Sometimes we don’t notice that we are surrounded by people who are not at all driven by the noblest motives. The fact that we feel lonely, rejected and isolated may not be unjustified at all. It can be a manipulation technique used by people around us.

Many toxic people wear masks, making them difficult to recognize at first. Then we fall into the traps laid for us.

Loneliness in a crowd, however, is not always the result of your internal problems. If you feel the problem is not with you, it may be time to change your environment to one where you finally feel like yourself.

Choose friends with whom you can share your passions and with whom you feel accepted and appreciated. Follow an instinct that tells you who you should trust.

Loneliness doesn’t have to last forever. Try to analyze your situation and find out if the feeling of alienation comes from your fear or from the toxic atmosphere around you. Once you can pinpoint the source of a problem, it will be much easier for you to deal with it. Good luck!
