Sugar  is one of the elements without which we cannot imagine our daily diet. But have you ever wondered that it may be one of the products that increase the risk of cancer?

For several decades, researchers have focused on understanding the relationship between nutrition and the development of cancer cells. Some foods have been found to significantly increase the risk of cancer.

Refined sugar is also included among the products that may contribute to the development of cancer  It is a product that is present in almost every home around the world because people love its sweet taste. However, we are often not aware of the risks associated with its consumption.

Researchers at the University of San Francisco have found that refined sugar is so dangerous to our health that it should be considered a toxic substance, just like tobacco or alcohol. As for the link between sugar and cancer, it is still the subject of much research and experimentation. However, over time, more and more researchers are inclined to the thesis that the relationship between them is quite strong.

Supporters of the so-called Conventional medicine has long believed that there is no scientific evidence or pattern in the human body that would allow sugar to cause cancer to develop.

It’s only now that this debate is becoming more common that many scientists and doctors agree that one way to fight cancer may be to eliminate certain foods from your diet. These include, but are not limited to, glucose products that cancer cells simply feed on.


The first thesis on this subject was put forward in 1923 by researchers from the Huntsman Cancer Institute in Utah. Already at that time it was found that neoplastic cells need much more glucose to develop than normal tissues and cells. 

The results of a study published in the journal of the National Academy of Sciences explained how carcinogenic processes take place and how, by regulating sugar consumption, the development of cancer cells can be controlled.

In 2012, Dr. Thomas Graeber and his colleagues published the results of their research in the magazine “Molecular Systems Biology”. They proved that the elimination of glucose causes cancer cells to die because there is a toxic accumulation of substances that react with oxygen.

Refined sugar can be a carcinogenic product as it greatly contributes to the “feeding” of the cancer that is already developing in the patient’s body. The research results described above should therefore contribute to the development of new methods of cancer treatment.

It is glucose that determines whether cancer cells will continue to develop and threaten a person’s life and health.

How to protect yourself from cancer?

Each of us can apply certain prophylaxis, which is aimed at protection against cancer. One of the steps is to get rid of products such as refined sugar from your life and diet. Of course, eating habits are not the only cause of cancer development. However, nutrition is a very important part of preventing this kind of disease.

It is worth being aware of the dangers of seemingly harmless products that we consume every day. Knowing about the harmful effects of products such as sugar contributes to reducing their consumption. As a result, it can provide us with a longer and healthier life.

Remember, however, that sugar is found indirectly in many other products – for example, cookies, candies, cereals, bread and sauces. Pay attention to what you eat and buy and do your body a favor.
